Spatial-temporal aspects of cost-benefit analysis for park management: An example from Khao Yai National Park, Thailand
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using a model calibrated to Khao Yai National Park in Thailand, this paper highlights the importance of generating explicitly spatial and temporal data for developing management plans for tropical protected forests. Spatial and temporal cost-benefit analysis should account for the interactions between different land uses – such as the benefits of contiguous areas of preserved land and edge effects – and the realities of villagers living near forests who rely on extracted resources. By taking a temporal perspective, this paper provides a rare empirical assessment of the importance of quasi-option values when determining optimal management plans. r 2007 Elsevier GmbH. Orthogonius species and diversity in Thailand (Coleoptera, Caraboidea, Orthogoniini), a result from the TIGER project
The carabid genus Orthogonius MacLeay is treated, based mainly on materials collected in Thailand through the TIGER project (the Thailand Inventory Group for Entomological Research). Among 290 specimens, 20 species are identified in total, 10 of them are new species: Orthogonius taghavianaesp. n. (Nakhon Nayok: Khao Yai National Park), Orthogonius coomanioidessp. n. (Phetchabun: Thung Salaeng L...
متن کاملOn Callistocypris thailandensis sp. nov. (Ostracoda, Crustacea) from Thailand.
Callistocypris thailandensis sp. nov. is here described from terrestrial habitat in Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. The new species differs from the other three Callistocypris species in the shape of carapace, the presence of strong longitudinal ridges on the ventral part of the valves and the chaetotaxy of several limbs. Zoogeography and ecology of the genus are b...
متن کاملAssociations of scarab beetles (Insecta: Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) with dung of four species of mammals in Khao Yai National Park, Thailand
To determine if dung from various species of native mammals are attractive to species of Scarabaeidae differentially in a seasonal evergreen forest in Thailand, we used pitfall traps baited with fresh dung of four species (barking deer, sambar deer, Asian elephant, pig-tailed macaque) and an unbaited control. The pitfalls were deployed in Khao Yai National Park for 24 hours in March 2010. All t...
